STUDIO POLICIES

Studio Policies

At Journey, our studio policies are designed to support students with clear expectations that create a smooth, supportive, and positive experience for everyone.

Year-Round Schedule

Journey follows a structured year-round calendar designed to encourage consistency and steady progress.

Students participate in 36 total lessons and recital experiences throughout the year. Lessons are scheduled on a consistent weekly basis, while the yearly calendar includes planned breaks for holidays, studio events, and recitals.

Some months may include more lessons and some fewer, but tuition remains consistent throughout the year to maintain each student’s reserved class time.

Tuition & Enrollment

Students begin with a trial lesson before completing enrollment.

After the trial, enrollment is finalized through:

  • An annual Studio Fee

  • Ongoing monthly tuition for weekly classes

Monthly tuition is divided into equal monthly payments and is not based on the number of lessons in a particular month. Tuition reserves your student’s consistent weekly class time throughout the year.

Tuition and fees are non-refundable and are not prorated for missed lessons or partial months.

Annual Studio Fee

The annual Studio Fee is due once per year, per student.

This fee includes your student’s PianoBox, Journey T-shirt, sheet music folder, books, learning materials, digital resources, games, rewards, and other studio supplies used throughout the year.

The goal of this fee is to ensure students are fully prepared from day one and to keep the learning experience seamless for families.

Program Structure

Journey offers age-based foundational group programs designed to support students at each stage of development.

Optional weekly private lesson add-ons may be available for students who would benefit from additional individualized support.

For current tuition rates and program details, please visit the Program page or contact the studio directly.

Make-Up Lessons

If the studio must cancel a lesson, families will be notified as soon as possible and a make-up lesson or alternative arrangement will be provided.

If a student is unable to attend a lesson, we ask for at least 24 hours notice whenever possible.

Each student may receive up to one make-up lesson per month, based on studio availability and scheduling options.

Because class placement and scheduling are carefully coordinated, make-up lessons are not guaranteed for missed group classes without notice.

Enrollment Changes & Leave of Absence

Students may begin lessons throughout the year based on availability.

Families may request one leave of absence per year for up to two months, during which the student’s class placement may be held.

A 30-day notice is required to discontinue lessons.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

To help lessons run smoothly, families are asked to arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before their scheduled lesson time.

Students should be picked up promptly at the end of class.

Students age 10 and younger must remain inside the studio until picked up by a parent or authorized adult.

Students age 11 and older may leave independently unless a parent requests otherwise in writing.

Teachers and staff are not responsible for students outside of scheduled lesson times.

Waiting Area

Parents are welcome to wait in the front lobby during lessons if desired.

Siblings are welcome when supervised respectfully by a parent or guardian.

To help maintain a focused learning environment, we ask families to keep noise levels low during active lesson times.

Recitals & Studio Events

Journey students may have opportunities to participate in recitals, studio events, workshops, camps, and special performances throughout the year.

Participation details, schedules, and event information will be communicated in advance whenever possible.

Digital Equipment Use

Studio iPads and apps may be used during lessons for learning activities. Students are expected to use devices appropriately and only for lesson purposes. The studio is not responsible for technical issues or data loss. Families may be responsible for damage caused by misuse.

Students may use studio pianos and equipment during lessons and are expected to treat them with care. Normal wear is expected; however, damage caused by misuse may be the responsibility of the student’s family.

Media & Photo Release

We love celebrating our students and sharing the joy of learning music! By enrolling at Journey Piano Studio, families give permission for photos and/or short videos of students participating in studio activities.

If you would prefer that your child not be included in photos or videos, just let us know by emailing hello@yourpianojourney.com ~ we’re always happy to accommodate.

Injury & Activity Liability

Journey Piano Studio activities may include movement & group participation. We take care to provide a safe & supportive environment, and by enrolling, families acknowledge these normal activities and agree to release Journey Piano Studio and its staff from liability for minor injuries that may occur during regular studio participation.

Food & Allergies

To help keep our studio clean and focused, we ask that gum, food, and personal toys remain outside the studio.

Food or treats may be part of the reward system or studio activities/events. Please let us know of any allergies or if you prefer your child not participate.

At Home Learning

Progress at Journey is supported by simple, consistent practice at home. We encourage families to help create a positive practice routine that fits their child’s stage and schedule.

Students are encouraged to practice in two different ways:

  1. If they have a digital piano at home and access to an iPad, they can schedule a session to learn how to use the digital piano software at home, just like in the studio. Using this method can greatly accelerate their progress. (Optional)

  2. The music each student should practice for their solo and/or group ensemble will be provided in their sheet music folder.

Waiting List

When classes at Journey Studio are full, students will be placed on a waiting list in the order requests are received. Placement does not guarantee enrollment. Once a spot opens, families will be contacted by email/text and have 48 hours to accept. If no response is received, the spot will go to the next student. Availability depends on lesson times, class type, and instructor schedules. Joining the waiting list is free, and tuition is only charged once enrollment is confirmed.

Communication

By enrolling in lessons with Journey, you agree that the studio may contact you via email and text regarding lessons, events, and studio updates. If you would like to opt out of emails or texts, you are welcome to email the studio to adjust your preferences.

To ensure our full focus remains on students during lessons, we are not always able to step away to discuss questions in person. For all questions, updates, or concerns, please call, text, or email the studio, and we will respond as soon as possible.

Please feel free to contact the studio at any time regarding any concerns or updates on progress. The combined efforts of student/parent/teacher always produce the best results!

Thank you for helping us provide an amazing learning environment for our Journey family!
